Giffard Challenges Local Mixologists to Strut their Stuff
at 2nd Iron Mixologist Competition

August 26, 2008 (Vancouver, BC) - Giffard, purveyor of fine syrups and liqueurs, has
thrown down the culinary gauntlet by announcing the 2nd annual Iron Mixologist
Challenge in Vancouver this fall. The event will take place on Sunday, September 28
2008, and will challenge local bartenders to flex their expertise and flaunt their style as
they create original cocktails featuring Giffard's newly-released Pear Liqueur.
Giffard is known worldwide as the maker of top-quality cocktail ingredients. The Iron
Mixologist Competition will give local mixologists an enjoyable opportunity to
demonstrate their proficiency in the art of mixed drinks by showcasing a cocktail of their
own invention. Giffard Pear Liqueur must be featured in each competitor's
submission.
The festivities will begin at noon, with guests being treated to a Pear Martini upon their
arrival at the Century Plaza Hotel & Spa. Lots will be drawn to determine the order in
which competitors will present their drinks. Competitors will then prepare the cocktails
they have previously developed and present them to the judges. Recipes may include
martini style, champagne cocktail, long or short drinks.
The panel of judges for the event will include three Mixologists, three Media members,
and three Chefs. At 5:30 they will announce the contest winner. An after party will
follow at the Century Plaza's beyond lounge, home to Bar Manager Chris Brown,
Giffard's 2007 Iron Mixologist winner. Judges and competitors will relax and enjoy
drinks, culinary delights from Executive Chef Cale Gault, and hot jazz in Beyond
Lounge's übercool yet intimate urban environment.
In addition to the glory of being declared Vancouver's reigning Iron Mixologist, the
winner of this year's competition will also earn a ticket to France to compete in Giffard's
International Mixologists Competition in 2009.
